Hash Code is a team programming competition for students and industry professionals across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. You pick your team and programming language, they pick a Google engineering problem for you to solve.
The 5th edition of Google Hash Code got a lot of responses around the world. Problems are targeted around Google engineering challenges, Google aims to give participants insight to experience what software engineering is like at Google. Past problems challenges include optimizing video serving on YouTube, optimizing the layout of a Google data centre and routing Street View cars through a busy city.
To participate in the Hash Code, you will form a team; minimum of two and maximum of four people. Google critically believe that two heads are better than one because it is not just about what you know individually but about how you can collaborate as a team to solve problems.
Hash Code 2018 kicks off with an Online Qualification Round on Thursday, March 1. According to Google, the challenge will start with a YouTube live stream at 18:30 CET prompt (no Africa time). Teams have four hours to code after the problem is released.
You can participate in any hub near you. Hub is a place where teams in the same area can come together to compete. It adds more excitement to the Online Qualification Round because it gives participants the opportunity to connect with other developers in your community.
There are currently 575 hubs across 70 countries. Hubs are meetups where teams from the same university, office or local area can come together to compete in the Online Qualification Round side-by-side. Participating from a hub adds a bit more fun and excitement to the competition, and is a great way to meet new people!.
